ORIGINS

6 x EPIC DRAMA SHORTS

A landmark series chronicling the key themes and events in the story of how modern-day humankind took shape.

The 8 x 1Hr episodes encompass fire, war, medicine, exploration and transportation, zeroing in on pivotal moments in the timeline and exploring them through the eyes of big thinkers and disruptors who stand on the brink of monumental change.

32 feature quality short films make up the backbone of this portrait of our rise into modernity. I edited 6 of the films and helped shape and recut many of the others, including Genghis Kahn, the LBK Massacre and the discovery of Australia.

Lewis has a natural sense of rhythm, pace and performance and works the rushes hard to get the best from them. Our work on Origins was entirely in the fiction genre and Lewis was in his element with the material. I would highly recommend him.

Lewis is really good to work with, and creatively excellent: I could safely leave him to do all the assembly work during the shoot, and the whole initial rough cut on his own once the shoot was finished. During the shoot we had some quite complex dialogue scenes with 12 characters in a room in simultaneous discussion, and Lewis was excellent at phoning through to the set as he assembled rough cuts of those scenes. In a high pressure shooting environment, it is easy for the Director & DOP to miss key insert shots, and Lewis was brilliant at making sure we got them. In summary, Lewis is a superb editor, and works very harmoniously with the director to get a great finished result without histrionics.
— John Mckensie - Director, 12 in a Box
